Newport News Shipbuilding to Launch Vision-Based Parking Guidance System
Smart parking guidance for a new multi-level garage
San Diego, CA (June 24, 2026) —EnSight Technologies, in partnership with Entry Guard Systems (EGS), has been selected to deliver a vision-based parking occupancy management and guidance system for a new parking garage at Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS). The system will help thousands of employees and visitors quickly locate available parking, improving traffic flow and reducing search times across the facility.
Newport News Shipbuilding, the largest industrial employer in Virginia with more than 25,000 employees, is constructing a new six-level parking garage that will provide approximately 3,000 parking spaces. The facility will join two existing NNS garages already equipped with EnSight’s vision-based parking guidance technology, further expanding the shipyard’s smart parking infrastructure.
Together, EnSight Technologies and EGS will deploy a camera-based platform throughout the garage’s levels, zones, and parking sections as part of the new construction. By integrating the technology during the construction phase, the parking guidance system will be fully operational when the garage opens, avoiding the cost and disruption of future retrofits.
At the core of the deployment is EnSight’s vision-based occupancy platform, powered by 86 cameras that monitor parking availability throughout the structure. ADA-accessible spaces will be tracked individually, providing both drivers and facility operators with real-time visibility into available accessible parking.
Parking availability will be communicated through 181 full-color digital signs located at key decision points throughout the garage. The guidance system will direct drivers to available parking by level and section, reducing circulation time and improving the overall parking experience. The platform is designed to deliver highly accurate occupancy data while minimizing the amount of hardware and infrastructure required.
The system will be managed through the cloud-based EnSightful Portal, providing operations staff with a centralized dashboard for live occupancy monitoring, utilization analytics, and historical reporting. These insights will help the Newport News Shipbuilding team understand parking demand and optimize operations as the new facility comes online.
